Aaaahhhh summer. The nostalgic smell of BBQs, family gathering, fireworks, and waaaay too many opportunities to load up on high fat, high carb meals without even realizing it!

Summertime eventsare actually much easier to plan for (and eat healthy at) than fall and winter occasions. Tons of fresh fruits and veggies and grilled proteins are a much more sensible way to celebrate than with heavy meals and desserts like we tend to do in the fall and winter months. However, there are still plenty of opportunities for making unwise choices. Check out some ides below for great ways to cut back on calories without sacrificing flavor or fun 🙂

For an appetizer, try this SUPER watermelon feta flag. Serve with toothpicks to resist overeating. The sweetness of the watermelon combined with the creamy feta looks as amazing as it tastes.

Grilling meat is actually a great way to prepare these items provided you aren’t adding a bunch of extra sugar or fat with dressing, marinades or butter. Check out these red white and blue turkey burgers for a delicious and patriotic grilling option.

Last but not least, who can resist a sweet treat? Healthier and lower-sugar options like this delectable parfait are a MUCH better alternative than cakes, pies or other sugary deserts.

Be safe and Happy 4th!
